Morning ceremonies are my new favorite thing! Danika and Stephen chose to have their ceremony at 11:30 in the morning and then followed it with a brunch reception, complete with French toast and mimosas! Brilliant. I was slightly concerned about harsh noon light, but the ceremony location was covered in shade — I'm thankful! The light ended up being great, and the fact that the entire reception was during daylight made for great photos. I would definitely recommend a morning ceremony to other couples if photos are important to you like they were to Danika and Stephen!
From the bride:
After we got engaged, I was toying with the idea of a brunch wedding when Stephen said "Let’s do it!” We love brunch food (who doesn’t?) and it set the mood perfectly for our reception. We planned our ceremony to be intimate and simple, and our reception was fun and laid-back. Barr Mansion is a stunning venue. Everywhere you look there is beautiful, lush greenery, making the decorating an easy task because we did not have to do much at all. They serve certified organic, farm-to-table food and are a zero-waste facility which was important to us as well.
The decorations were largely do-it-yourself. I love succulents and cactus so we included them wherever we could! Using cactus instead of flowers for our centerpieces and thank-you favors enabled us to DIY decorations well ahead of time. My bouquet by STEMS was absolutely stunning — I kept the giant air plant from it so it could be part of the centerpiece on our dining table. The other succulents we used are now growing on our back porch.
Our ceremony was our most memorable part of the wedding. It was exactly how we imagined it: intimate, personal, and simple. It was truly a picturesque moment — standing with each other underneath a towering pecan tree, surrounded by our friends and family, all set to beautiful string music. I cried happy tears the whole time. My cousin officiated the wedding; it was so lovely to have someone who knows us both so well be our officiant. We kept our bridal party very small— just two people in fact! It kept our planning process simple and we were able to involve many of our friends and family in other ways, like doing ceremony readings and getting ready with us in the morning.
