I'm doing the Whole30!
I'm doing the Whole30! 😱 Today is day 5 for me. If you don't know about Whole30, I'll break it down for ya. The Whole30 is a 30-day elimination diet that consists of eating meat, seafood, eggs, lots of veggies and natural fats, some fruits, and any herbs, spices, and seasonings. That means no added sugar, no alcohol, no grains (gluten-free or otherwise), no legumes, no dairy, no carrageenan, no MSG, and no sulfites for 30 days.
The idea is to eliminate gut-damaging, inflammatory, and craving-inducing foods to let our bodies reset from the physiological and psychological effects of food on our bodies before systematically reintroducing these food groups after 30 days to see how each food group affects the body. It’s also meant to kick sugar cravings to the curb.
This way of eating isn't new to me. I've been familiar with Whole30 for a few years, and many meals I cook at home are Whole30-compliant. I love the Whole30 philosophy. No counting calories. No quick fixes. No deprivation. It's not even a weight loss program. Just lots of whole foods. Food as nourishment and even medicine. Plus I have a MAJOR crush on its co-founder @melissa_hartwig, but I won't get into that… 😉
I've never committed to this way of eating for a full 30 days. To be honest, it's mostly out of fear of it being too hard. Yep, I said it. I'm afraid of failing. And once I started last week, I was even afraid of posting about it. Because of that failing thing again. But you know what, accountability. And community. And because this is exciting and a little scary and maybe I just want to talk about it, OK? I *will* finish the full 30 days and reintroduction because I owe it to my body for all it does for me. And to be honest, I also want to prove to myself that I can do this! 😝
